Have you tried it? The 907 Navigation App is designed to make it easy for families and staff to find and tap into local resources, social services, and benefit systems
Teachers are often the most trusted source of information for parents, and it’s hard to know about all of the resources that might be available to a family in need of food, medical care, mental health support, housing assistance, or childcare. This tool can help school staff point families in the right direction.
The Alaska Impact Alliance has been working hard to make the app an easy-to-use one-stop shop. Not everyone is adept at using QR codes and Apps, so they also created a cheat sheet to make the most important information easily accessible and short videos to help grandparents and other caregivers who may not be tech-savvy get more comfortable with the app. Their efforts paid off. They were recently nationally recognized by the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network for their Exemplary Practice!
Do you know of other resources that could be added to App? Recommend resources here.
Do you know (staff or families?!) that might benefit from learning about 907 Navigation? How might you share the app with them?
If you’re using other apps and digital tools at your school to share critical information with families, how might you onboard grandfamilies and other less tech-savvy families so they have the information they need to be a true partner in their child’s education?
Find out more about how schools and communities can help support families in need in this TEDx Talk from Alaska Impact Alliance’s Charity Carmody.
