Sayéik Gastineau Community School in Juneau learned about an innovative way to partner with families to support student learning called Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT). Classroom teacher Elizabeth Brennell and interventionist Amy Ballard teamed up to facilitate an engaging 75-minute meeting with families. During this time, parents got to know other parents, learned a foundational skill to support math learning, reviewed classroom math data, played two math games that will support their child’s learning at home, and finished by setting a goal for their child. Parents will return to the classroom for another event in April. Throughout the 75-minute session, parents talked and laughed together, making it a fun and engaging time.
As the educators were putting things away, Elizabeth received a text from one parent saying it was an enjoyable time, and she learned a new game to support her child.
