Family Engagement Training

Family Engagement Training Made Easy

You’ve got a lot on your to-do list. That’s why we’ve made fitting in required family engagement training easy with three modifiable training modules.

What’s included:

  • Three 30-minute modules, with ideas for extending the conversation.
  • PowerPoint or Google Slides that can be modified to fit your school’s needs and goals.
  • Activities, tip sheets, and discussion prompts to foster active learning.
  • Inter-connected modules can be part of a series OR delivered on their own:

Families as Partners
Explore mindsets around family engagement. Practice approaching families with a strength-based lens. Bonus slides on mandatory reporting of abuse and neglect.
Talking with Families Build confidence and comfort in talking with families. Use scripts, prompts, and even AI to practice positive phone calls.
Building Relationships with Alaskan FamiliesConsider the history of education in Alaska and families’ past experiences with school. Discuss strategies and tools for building relationships.

Alignment with Requirements:

These trainings will help schools meet ESEA Family Engagement (p. 71) requirements of Title I, part A to train school staff to:

  • Share responsibility for high student achievement (§ 1116(d))
  • Value contributions families can bring to the classroom (§ 1116(e)(3))
  • Work with parents as equal partners (§ 1116(e)(3))
  • How to build ties between the parents and the school (§ 1116(e)(3))
  • Ensure regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff (§ 1116(d)(2)(D))

Each training module also addresses family engagement training requirements of Title I-C (Migrant Ed), Title II-A (Effective Instruction), McKinney-Vento (Homeless), and IDEA (Special Education).
