A Place of Aspirations

Stone Soup Group hosted a parent conference in Anchorage on March 21-22, 2024 bringing together 65 parents, students, and professionals who support special education students.

Keynote speaker Hasan Davis shared a message of hope for those doing the deep and challenging work of working with special education students. He noted that parents and caregivers who have students with learning disabilities may also struggle with poverty and mental illness. During Hasan’s own education, no one expected much from him and treated him as if unable to achieve anything academically much less go to college or build a successful career. He called on us to “be a place of aspirations with paths to possibilities.”
