Do you want to share newsletters and updates with families but are short on time? Here are a few ways to make sharing what’s happening in your classroom even easier.
- Make the class newsletter a class project. Middle school students in Yakutat created this newsletter to share out highlights from their classroom, including a recent leadership retreat.
- Ask for help from an AI friend. We asked claude.ai to draft an email to families about upcoming parent-teacher conferences in under 5 minutes. And if you have families who struggle with English, try out a tool like TalkingPoints to communicate in their native language.
- Copy and paste. Templates abound. Need to communicate about the reading? Check out these examples from the Alaska Family Engagement Center.
Did you know?
- The new Alaska Performance Scholarship means more money for students (up to $28,000!)… and more requirements to communicate about the scholarship. The new law says that schools need to let 11th graders know what courses they need to take to be eligible for the scholarship. Information about the scholarship should be shared with 9th and 10th graders by January 15.
- Here is a sample email as well as an APS checklist and FAQs.
- Don’t forget to include families and a clear way for students and families to know which courses they should take to be eligible for the scholarship. Remember, families are students’ most trusted and enduring advisors, so keep them in the loop!
